If you are a first time buyer of one of our Clematis, you are buying three years of love that we have put into growing your plant.
We have seen your plant grow from a single cutting.
We have pruned it seven times to build its strength and potential.
We have fed it, watered it and loved it until we packed it up in a box and sent it to you.
We have invested a huge amount of time to get your plant big and strong enough to give you joy for the next fifty years. Our job has taken us three years to complete, but now it is over to you to push your plant to a new level.
The first thing to do is to unpack your plant
Give it a drink if it needs it and put it in a shady spot for a couple of days while it recovers from its journey. Don’t over water!
Unpack
It’s obvious right? Unpack your plant and make sure you have exactly what you ordered.
Most Clematis will be dormant and may even look dead if you got your plant in autumn or winter. Don’t panic! That is exactly what they look like at this time of year.
Shade
Shading during winter is not really required however as a standard rule it is better to reduce stress on your plant after spending a bit of time in a dark box bouncing around the countryside by putting it somewhere sheltered.
Plant
Hopefully, you will have some idea where your plant will be living once it arrives. In the ground next to the pergola, up a fence or in a pot. Even if you have not made your mind up for sure, your Clematis will be happy enough in its pot for a few months more IF you keep the roots cool and you keep the roots moist (not wet).

But it does help to motivate you to get the job done.
What do Clematis need?
Clematis like cool, moist and well drained soil which is fertile. Clematis are heavy feeders and enjoy their plant food! They are not fussy with pH but are not keen on living in a constantly windy spot.
